Chapter Preservation Activities
The gravesite of DAR Patriot Johannes Longyear is beautifully maintained by the Town of Shandakan, NY. His grave and that of his wife Annatje, are the ones on the left with the flag and SAR marker. One of his sons Jacob, not a patriot, and his wife are on the right. The gravesite is located on what is now called the Kinsey farm, down the road from the Longyear family farm and cemetery. The Sons of the American Revolution supply the flags and grave markers. |
Preservation of our historic Wiltwyck Chapter house is a never ending task. The house was built about 1670 and has been continuously in use since then. It was partially burned by the British Troops when they over-ran Kingston and the occupants escaped to Hurley with many important historic colonial New York documents. We maintain our chapter records and artifacts in our library. The ladies of Wiltwyck Chapter, NSDAR purchased this historic house in 1907. There is always spring cleaning of outside grounds. Our chapter maintains the physical building, windows, roof, gutters, heating system and water supply. We have been doing that since 1907. There are always tables and chairs to setup before and after events and kitchen cleanup after our dinner meetings. Dusting and vacuuming are also necessary, like any other large two story home. |

With a 4,400 square foot house to maintain, with 8 rooms filled with lots of furniture and art work, there is always lots of cleaning, dusting and waxing to keep things preserved for future generations to enjoy. Of course we always have to decorate everything for the holidays to preserve our traditions. Click or tap a picture below to see more.
